Countdown to '08:
Happy New Year, everyone!
We're still working through the final film submissions, but we can reveal some details about the incredibly exciting events planned for the 2008 Sunscreen Film Festival, to be held March 19 through March 22, 2008.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark: The Adaptation
In the summer of 1982, three young boys from the Gulf Coast of Mississippi set out to remake George Lucas and Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Raiders of the Lost Ark. For the next seven years, the friends demonstrated incredible resourcefulness, creativity and endurance to complete the project. The result is a fascinating document that stands as a testament to youthful exuberance and the endurance of friendship. Director Eric Zala (bio on our GUESTS page) is scheduled to appear at our screening, date and time to be announced.

Screenwriters' Panel
Great movies begin as words on the page. The screenplay dictates the people places and things to be seen and the words that will be heard. A screenplay also represents the heart of a story - the dialogue and events that resonate with an audience. The Sunscreen Film Festival is honored to have three talented and acclaimed panelists who have agreed to share their knowledge and experience with our attendees. Our guests include Die Hard scribe Steven de Souza, Oscar-nominated co-writer of Children of Men, Timothy J. Sexton, and author of The 101 Habits of Highly successful Screenwriters, Karl Iglesias. Expanded bios can be found on our GUESTS page.
Actors Workshop
We are very excited to be offering a special audition workshop for actors, directors and producers on the second day of the 2008 Sunscreen Film Festival, Thursday March 20. This event is so special, we had to set up a separate page for all the details. If you are an actor looking to improve your chances of getting hired, you can't miss this excellent educational and networking opportunity. Visit our Actors Workshop page for the details about this event.
Distribution and Finance Panel
Returning to Sunscreen 2008 are our guests from last year, Jamie Fleming and John N. Flynn. Each has worked in various capacities within major studios such as Universal, Disney and MGM/UA, eventually moving into international distribution with their current company, Hollywood Classics. Sunscreen is honored they have decided to return and again share their experience in finance, marketing and distribution of major and independent films for more than two decades.
RED ONE Demonstration
Curtis Graham, cinematographer on Suncreen's Best Florida Film for 2007, Tampa Jai Alai, has contacted us about doing a demo of the most buzzed-about piece of technology in the indie film world, RED Digital Cinema's 4K RED ONE camera. This will be an excellent opportunity to see the cutting edge of cinematography in person.
Our Venue
Sunscreen Film Festival 2008 is pleased to continue our relationship with the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in beautiful downtown St. Petersburg as our venue and official hotel. Right outside the Vinoy is a spectacular view of the clear blue waters of Tampa Bay. Within walking distance are museums, parks, restaurants, beaches and the famous St. Petersburg Pier. We look forward to seeing you at Sunscreen Film Festival 2008!
